A simple recipe for classic sweet cookies

Classic Sweet Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. This usually takes about 2-3 minutes. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

  4. Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until incorporated. If using, fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula.

  5. Shape Cookies: Using a cookie scoop or a spoon, drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers are still soft. The cookies will continue to bake on the sheet after being removed from the oven.

  7. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

  8. Serve: Enjoy your sweet cookies with a glass of milk or a cup of tea!
