Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Mix Wet Ingredients:
In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. This usually takes about 2-3 minutes. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
Combine Dry Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures:
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until incorporated. If using, fold in the chocolate chips with a spatula.
Shape Cookies:
Using a cookie scoop or a spoon, drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers are still soft. The cookies will continue to bake on the sheet after being removed from the oven.
Cool:
Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serve:
Enjoy your sweet cookies with a glass of milk or a cup of tea!
